Towards the end of May when the grass becomes dry and exhausted, the wildebeest start to mass in huge armies.

Eventually, after several dummy runs, the animals begin their trek in a column several miles long to the permanent waters in the north of the Park. Straddled across the Equator and perched on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, Uganda is one of the most alluring cultural safari destinations in Africa. Uganda’s population is estimated to be 27 million people growing at a rate of 2.5% per annum is made up of complex and diverse range of tribes with the majority (98%) being Africans who fall into 4 major ethnic groups; Bantu, Nile Hamites, Nilotic and Hamite groups.
Lake Kyoga forms the northern boundary for the Bantu speaking peoples, who dominate much of East, Central and Southern Africa with the Baganda taking the biggest percentage. Most of the Bantu speaking people formed their own kingdoms; Buganda, Busoga, Bunyoro, Ankole and Tooro. Before the coming of the British these kingdoms were organized political settings with Buganda having the most civilized and highly centralized monarchy. In the north live the Lango (near Lake Kyoga) and the Acholi (towards the Sudanese border) who speak Nilotic languages. KENYA EDUCATIONAL TOUR
KENYA EDUCATIONAL TOUR:
Nairobi, Tsavo, Lake Nakuru

SAFARI DESCRIPTION:
Kenya Education tours and safari with Kenya educational and study Tours professionals
The purpose of this trip is to take students back to the cradle of humanity - not just to civilizations past, but to where humanity began - East Africa, in part in Kenya. By being involved in this particular trip, students will not only view the people and lifestyles of one of the most vibrant countries in East Africa, they will have the chance to view one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world.
Wealthy people, with their 'demand' for the exotic are killing the diversity of planet Earth. The fortunate students who get to go on this trip will get to see sights that others will never see because of the 'demand' for trophies or living space - and who, perhaps, can blame some people for poaching to earn a living that is leading to the extinction of species. This trip blends people and nature.

OBJECTIVES:
1. To expose students to a part of planet Earth that they, or their parents, would probably never think of going.
2. To take students out of their comfort zone (safely), and into the realm of where almost 50 per cent (maybe more) of the world's population live - day-to-day survival.

3. To expose students to the beauty of Africa - the people, the ecosystem, and the ability to be happy with few of the material comforts in life.
4. To experience a cultural exchange with the Kenyans by visiting a mission school where the students have been orphaned because of the AIDS epidemic in Kenya, and later to visit a Teachers' College of young hopeful Kenyans who are training to be teachers.
5. To experience a Farm stay so that students get to experience a life on a farm on a large estate in which the enterprising farmers today use modern agricultural methods to work the land and who also supplement their living with evening safari tours
6. At the end of the trip, to be able to empathize with those - anywhere in the world, including your home country- who, through no direct fault of their own, are not able to enjoy the same comforts as people in the 'developed world'.
7. Perhaps, somewhere down the line and when this trip's participants are decision makers with financial resources at their disposal, they will contribute to help people in Africa, to save endangered species, and to give groups of people less fortunate than themselves a chance to survive.
8. The objectives above are not necessarily curriculum related - they transcend formal education and deal with education about the real world.

This one-day trail follows the floor of the gorge, the walls climbing steeply on both sides. This two-hour walk through the gorges is fascinating where you wash your hands under a small waterfall and sometimes you find the water too hot to handle. Its very soft, soapy feel to it and a rather unpleasant Sulphury smell. In the middle of the Park, near the entrance to the gorges, is the large volcanic plug called the Central Tower? It is permissible to climb this Tower if you are an accomplished climber and accompanied by our guide. Fischer's Tower a volcanic plug similar to the Central Tower is 25 meters high and named after a German explorer. Much fun in the wild. This is the only park in Kenya you can walk or cycle. CHYULU HILLS
5 DAYS CHYULU HILLS WALKING SAFARI
Day 1
Depart Nairobi around 0800, for the 3 hour drive down the Mombasa road to Kibwezi. Here we will leave the tarmac, and take a dirt road, (probably an optimistic term for it), for the 30 km to where we start walking to the caves. First though, lunch of cold cuts, salads, bread and cheese, cold beer or soft drink, then an hour walk to the entrance of the caves. Afternoon spent exploring.

Day 2
Explore sections of one of the longest "Lava Tube" caves in the world - Leviathan. These caves, which world-wide, are relatively rare, are thought to have been formed when molten lava, of specific type and viscosity flowed down a slope of a specific angle. The surface layer cooled and solidified, but the lower part, still molten, continued to flow on down. At this point, somewhere up the hillside a collapse of the surface crust occurred through which air enters, and so a tube evacuated itself just below the surface. Afternoon and the evening spent down in the caves looking at some of the fascinating formations found therein - Sink holes, lava ropes, stalagmites and stalactites, benches and of course the secondary, water formed features.
Day 3
Early morning departure by road for the top of the Chyulu Hills. Superb walking country with gently undulating grasslands, interspersed with dense patches of forest. Possibility of viewing herds of eland and other antelope, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest with slightly lesser chance to see elephant, lion and buffalo and the other game that live in the area. Probable views of Kilimanjaro just 50 km away. Night somewhere along the crest. Probably cool and windy with low cloud in the early morning.
Day 4
Full day of walking
Day 5
Early morning game drive or short walk before a late breakfast / early lunch . It's then along the crest road and down the western side of the hills for the drive back to Nairobi arriving before nightfall.
Options are of course many and varied and in many cases we can be flexible about the itinerary whilst we are actually on the safari. One may, for instance, wish to spend an extra day caving (or cut out a day), thus spend less time (or longer) walking the Chyulus.

MOUNT ELGON NATIONAL PARK
The 1,145 sq. km Mount Elgon National Park (locally known as Masaba), includes the shell of an extinct volcano, although hot springs still bubble on the caldera floor, on the border with Kenya. Its highest peak, Wagagai, is 4,321 m above sea level, making it the fourth highest mountain in East Africa. The rugged slopes, with their spectacular waterfalls, caves, hot springs and mountain vegetation, make this a wonderful and exciting area to explore. Most of the national park is montane forest, with vegetation that has adapted to the contrast of tropical heat and freezing nights. Intriguing and unique plants include giant groundsel, giant lobelia and giant heather. Bamboo forests are found in the southern and western parts of the park, and there are beautiful wild flowers.
The animals found in the park include buffalo, duiker, tree hyrax and leopard. Elephants have recently returned to the area from Kenya and there are many primates. The birdlife includes Ross' Turaco, hornbills, and the Crowned Eagle.
Activities in the Park
The wooded slopes of Mt. Elgon are an enchanting place to hike and climb. Because of its smaller scale and milder climate, Mt. Elgon is a good choice for somebody looking for a less strenuous alternative to the Rwenzori Mountains. There are two main trails, the Piswa and the Sasa trails. Itineraries can be discussed at the park headquarters. The best time to plan a tour is during the dry season (June - August or December - February), and guides, porters and park rangers are available and recommended.
